A Special Note of thanks from the VBS coordinators

"Dear Hannah,

I would like to thank the Youth for their effort and time in this deco project. It was tremendous that they were willing to take up the challenge to put up the deco similar to the ones in the picture. I was really encouraged by that. Even though they may not have finished the last room, but the commitment to come back this week to finish shows their commitment. Sorry that I could not help much in the past weeks as our cell group also struggled to finish the other 3 rooms. But, it was a tremendous job as mentioned by Christine below: (From Aunty Joyce)

Joyce,
Extend my sincere thanks to all your team members who have supported in the deco. Excellent job done really. I marvelled at the good job that you've all had put up.

Meanwhile, have a Blessed week and please forward this email to all the Youth.(From Christine)"

Well fellow Ripplians, i can only reiterate what both Christine & Joyce has said..All of you have been a great help, and truly reflects your heart of service. I pray that each and everyone continue to serve god with the talents He has blessed you with. Also, remember, we are humans, and need to rest too! So don't forget to rest before the long VBS weekend this week.

Take good care of all the children (for those who are athlete coaches) and for those who are leading worship (lead the children into a wonderful time of worship with god)!

Let us also remember VBS in prayer =)

to be or not to be

by Jared.

Beginning of the year, the never-smiling head prefect aptly named Tara, donned her dark, gloomy uniform, and had requested to recruit more students to vigorously train them to become the new predecessor of the prefectorial board.

Yes, me, being an eligible prefect, was elected/nominated. Whopee.

So, I had no intentions of being a prefect whatsoever. My social skills are meh, PR below average, so why was I chosen?

Nevertheless, I went for the interview anyway:

"Hello, Jared."

"Good morning, Tara."

"So, Jared, I've noticed that you don't pay attention during assembly. Why is that?"

"Um, yes because the mike you used was faulty."

"Are you sure?"

"And, um, I was sitting at the back. So, yeah, yeah."

"So Jared, why did you come late?"

"I was at...Cheras."

"Why is that?"

"For sports."

"I see. Well, I guess I, uh, have everything I need from here. Thank you, Jared."

No doubt it was a disaster. I thought I didn't get it. And I didn't go for the announcements because I was ...Cheras. For sports.

But, ironically, I made it. That was very shocking. I thought to myself "Dude, that was a miracle! That was unbelievable! What on earth was that?"

Of course, I could sense the work of God's hand here. Was he calling me to the prefectorial board? That I am not sure, but I will find out after my prefectorial probation.

Life is fragile

by Samuel Wong

Life is fragile.
At any single moment, the smooth sailing momentum we've built up can swing completely out of control. Swing; literally.

On Friday night, I was walking home from my friend's house, around mid-night. As I was crossing one of the roads, I noticed flashing lights and the dying siren of an ambulance further down the road. Being the nosey parker I am, I decided to check it out.
A car had swung a complete 180 degrees, slammed into a tress and swung a further 90 degrees into a ditch. About a third of the car had disappeared into the dent, leaving the windshield completely obliterated. The driver and another passenger had already been carted away, leaving a 20-something year old guy stuck in the back. leg pinned and broken against the front seat. As the fire department tried to figure out how to extract the poor bloke, a large crowd started to gather. All nosey parkers like me. The adults were shaking their heads, some were just staring. Some 'carefree' teenagers were grinning, admiring the wreck and wondering how it happened. I dropped a silent prayer that no one would die.
Later at home after taking a shower, I lied down on my bed. That was when it hit me. That life can end at any moment. Almost everyone lives on the daily basis thinking that they'll grow old then die. Most of them are right, some are just deluded. It gave me such a sense of urgency, knowing that so many of my friends still did not know the Lord. My old best friend, Russell, was no longer a best friend. He was just another face in the crowd. My best chance to share the Lord with him had come and pass. Friends come and friends go. It's a fact of life. So for however brief a time they are our friends, we should seize the opportunity to do what maybe no one else might do. We should share Jesus with them.

After all, life is fragile.

Ripples and TeenStreet

by Danial.

My time at Ripples was enjoyable and refreshing for the soul. As I attended the sessions, I saw my friendships growing. But the most important thing was my faith and walk with God. What I saw was the growing need to do something for Christ. But what? Then as I thought about it, I realised that we can be a witness for Christ anywhere. This is because when I opened my eyes I saw everywhere, people suffering. So I thought, if I could just lend a hand, I would be witnessing for Christ. So Ripples has also taught me that we can be witnesses of Christ anywhere.

---

About Teen Street, waking up early, sleeping late, icky food, boring talks? That's what most people's perceptions are about most Christian camps. But this one was different. Through this year's theme, Metamorphosis, I learned about things in life, especially in your walk with God. I also learned some cool 'belly dancing' from our coach B.E.N.N.Y. (Andrew style). I also developed friendships with Jamie and Sam (talk about torchlight and also with Shi Guang and I.V.A.N. ) So altogether, the camp was fun, exhilarating, and cool. Peace out 4 God.

of God-given friends and serving

by Jamie Lim.

My time at Ripples was fun, and exciting. The lessons I learn from each session was great. The friends here can't actually be found in school. The friends here are always there to encourage me rather than most school friends who always put you down.

Here at Ripples, I get the chance to:

-learn about God with my friends
-play the guitar for God
-worship lead

----

Also, the Ripples group joined the Teenstreet Camp 06.
It was fun. It was AWESOME! Dan and Suzie Potter sure know how to communicate with the youths :)

Transition

by Andy Lim.

Over the past 2 weeks, God has helped me in many things. These past 2 weeks, it was almost a month for me since I started college. The first few weeks I wasn't very comfortable with college life. It is a change for me. During the past 2 weeks, God helped me in a way. Maybe it's because I asked God to help me walk my college life. When I think back, I see that God had given many great new friends. Surprisingly, all my new friends are very unique in a way. They're not the same kind at all. Because of friends, college life seems much more comfortable for me and I really praise God for it. That's not all that has happened. Last week, God helped me through my test and I was able to answer all my questions. Therefore right now, I know that what I find impossible or tough is just a piece of cake to God and He is always there for me. I also thank God for giving me people who I can relate to and share everything openly.

character change

by Jonathan.

Well for the past few weeks, I've been getting a bad reputation for myself in school. Once I started focusing more on God and books, I started feeling very different.
I felt more sociable and more open-minded. I felt that my life wasn't miserable anymore. Everyday I use God's words from Proverbs and it works a lot. I'm changing from an annoying fella to a very calm and generous guy. Until today, I am still working on my maturity and my attitude on becoming a better person for God. I am very thankful to God for giving me various challenges in life for me to face.

God at work

by Leanne Ooi.

Just quite recently, a friend had come to me to share her problems. It seems like she did not know who else to go to, not even her parents because the problems she face involves them. I tried my best to comfort her, to help her. She was in a really confused state, do not know what to do. I find it quite hard to comfort her in a way that she will understand because she is not a believer.

I prayed to God and asked Him to help me with words to say to this friend. I did not know how to share about Christ to her. I prayed hard for ways to share with her. I prayed for God to use me and give me an opportunity to bring her to Him because I know that only God knows what she is going through and only He knows what are His plans for her. I believe God can help and guide her.

And amazingly, God gave me this opportunity to invite her to a rally, 'Easter Rally' organized by SMKSU. I prayed that her parents will allow her to go and God worked again. She told me that she could come. I could not help but to ask that God will speak to her and touch her in the event. God was amazing. I believe she was touched. She went out when the psator of the event called for those who wants to know more about Christ. I do hope that she will continue to grow in Christ. I thank God that He had worked so amazingly.

T.G.4.R!

by Ng Su Xin.

Ripples is a good place to have fellowship. Everyone is friendly and is a good place to obtain friends. But most of all it's a good place to learn more about God and how He lived on this earth that some of us love and some of us hate. How to become a better person for Him and also why He did all that He did. To know why He loves us so much. I learned that all He did actually had a different meaning behind it. It's sometimes heart breaking but it builds us up all the same. So, I thank God 4 Ripples! (T.G.4.R!)

Contagious!

A Teenstreet reflection
by Melody

Teenstreet 2006 was the very first camp I attended without my family. I had never been away from home on my own for six days before!

The sermons by Dan and Suzie Potter touched me as God spoke to me through them. I got to know my group members better through the times we met with our coach for Bible studies, prayer, discussions, support, etc.

God has changed my heart and I look forward to Teenstreet 2007 – CONTAGIOUS!

Metamorphosis

A Teenstreet reflection
by Leanne

Metamorphosis. It was only a word that I know. The only thought that comes to my mind when looking at this word is that it means grow. I wouldn’t have know it deeply enough if it wasn’t for Teenstreet.

On 8th December 2006,once again I went as a participant, not forgetting what God had done in my life during the last Teenstreet camp. In fact, it had changed me totally. My faith in God had grew stronger after that. I was grouped into a same net as all the other girls from my own church. I felt proud at myself. After all I had been to this camp before so I know better than them. I was very self-centered then. My focus was on myself instead of God. There were thoughts that bothers and things that keep me worry as well.

As we gather everyday for ‘Metamorphosis’, I learn more and more each day. The main theme of the message was the tree of life and the tree of death. In life there are choices to be made that causes changes as well. Yes, I had been to the wrong way many times, no doubt, but yet God never give up on me. He called me back to Him. He brought me back to the right path. His love for me had never fade.

Again He reminded me of His words. “ Love your neighbors as yourself’. I want to choose to love God, love others and love myself. Being self-centered will only cause me to feel lonely or better than everyone else or even feel afraid. I want to avoid that. I want to be alert about what’s going on around me so that I may also care for others and not just me, myself all the time. With that, I can also get myself focus on the right thing at the right time especially when I should be focusing on God. Not forgetting to put Him first in my life besides all other things. I remembered during one of our net times, the few of us came up with different short and helpful quotes. They are “No matter what, God will be there.” , “Even if I have nothing, I have everything when I have God.” , “ I am not afraid when God is there.” and I shared my favorite quote which is “No matter how bug our problems are, our God is bigger.”.

In order to be changed or transformed, I have to go through this process called ‘Metamorphosis’ which I will grow and change into a better person. Things don’t change just like that. It has to take time just as a butterfly starts as an egg, then a caterpillar, cocoons and breaks out to fly! I want to be transform by God and allow Him to cocoon me and lead me through this process. I pray that I’ll be changed along with all the others too. After all, support and care from others does play a part for us to be able to hold on to what we’ve decided to do. I thank God for my net members throughout the camp and also my coach. They had been really good friends to me, caring for me and sharing with me. Thank all of them as well for their honest sharing during net times. Though Teenstreet had ended, our walk with God still goes on. Let Him cocoon us and transform us in the process.

Melody writes...

Before I became a Christian, my life was such that to be a Christian is to go to church and go back home. I didn't know that Jesus loves me but when I got converted, I learned that He loves me and He wants me to love others too. So I started out and I find that God helped me through all times...
